Testing compatibility rules
Simulate bundle selections in Quotivity Studio to see which products your rules restrict before reps configure a quote.
Overview
The compatibility rule tester lets you walk through a bundle's options and see exactly which products active rules disable — without opening Quote Builder or building a test quote. Use it after creating or editing rules, and whenever you change a bundle's option products.
Prerequisites
- An Admin role in Quotivity Studio
- At least one active compatibility rule
- A bundle with at least one option (included or add-on)
Steps
- Open the bundle. In Quotivity Studio, go to Bundles and open thebundle you want to test.
- Click Test Compatibility Rules. The button is in the **CompatibilityRules** row on the bundle summary panel. It opens a side panel.
- Make selections for each option. For included options, pick a productfrom the dropdown. For add-on options, select the add-ons you want to include. The tester starts with each included option's default product.
- Review the results. The panel header shows how many rules are active, how many are triggered by your current selections, and how many products are restricted. Each option lists its products — restricted ones are marked and show which rule blocked them.
- Change selections and observe. Swap an included product or toggle anadd-on to see how restrictions shift. This is the fastest way to confirm a new rule behaves the way you expect.
When your selections produce the expected restrictions — and no option is left with zero selectable products — the rule set is working as intended.
Reading the results
- Active rules — the total number of enabled compatibility rules on your account.
- Triggered now — rules whose IF side matches your current selections.
- Restricted products — products disabled across all options by triggered rules.
Hover a restricted product to see the rule trace — every rule that contributed to blocking it, with links to open the rule for editing.
If the tester shows No active compatibility rules, create and enable rules first, then return to the bundle.
Validating bundle defaults
When you save a bundle option product, Quotivity checks default selections against active rules. If defaults would violate a rule, you see a warning that sales reps will get auto-corrected selections. Fix the defaults or adjust the rule before activating the bundle.
You can also review rules from the option product editor: open an option product, scroll to Related Products Compatibility Rules, select a product, and see every rule that references it on the IF or THEN side.
What happens on quotes
The tester mirrors what reps see in Quote Builder — incompatible products are hidden from pickers, and existing selections that become invalid are flagged for resolution. As an admin configuring rules, you don't need to walk through Quote Builder to validate behavior; the tester and bundle-default warnings cover the admin workflow.
Tips
- Test with the products and property values your reps actually use, not just the happy path.
- After changing rule priority, retest bundles where multiple rules overlap.
- Use Manage rules in the tester panel to jump straight to the Compatibility Rules list.
