Configuring quote totals on the Line Item Table
Decide which subtotals, discounts, fees, taxes, and totals appear at the bottom of the quote, and what each is called.
Overview
Section titled “Overview”The totals block sits at the bottom of the Line Item Table and answers the buyer’s real question: what do I owe? The Totals tab in the Line Item Table module controls which rows appear there and how each one is labeled.
Start with the Show Totals Section toggle. Turn it off and the table ends with the last line item — useful for a secondary table that shouldn’t repeat the quote’s totals. Turn it on and the individual rows below become available.
Totals rows
Section titled “Totals rows”| Row | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Group subtotals | A subtotal under each section when line items are grouped on the Groups tab. No effect if grouping is off |
| Quote subtotals | Billing-frequency breakdown rows, such as Annual and One Time |
| Discounts | Quote-level discount rows |
| Fees | Quote-level fee rows |
| Taxes | Quote-level tax lines and the total tax amount. This does not control tax notes shown under individual line items |
| Quote total | The grand total — the amount due now |
| Total contract value (TCV) | The value of the contract across its full term |
| After-discount styling | When discounts apply, shows the original amount struck through with the discounted amount, on line item totals and quote subtotals |
| Future payments | Scheduled payments due after the effective date, when line items have deferred billing. Hidden when the totals section is off |
Relabeling rows
Section titled “Relabeling rows”Most rows have a Label field that appears once the row is turned on, so you can match your customers’ vocabulary or a language other than English:
- Group subtotals — defaults to “subtotal:”
- Quote subtotals — defaults to “Subtotals”
- Taxes — defaults to “Tax”
- Quote total — defaults to “Total”
- Total contract value — defaults to “Total Contract Value”
- Future payments — defaults to “Future payments”
The quote total also has Show currency code, which prints the currency (for example, USD) in parentheses beside the label. Leave it on for cross-border quotes where the number alone is ambiguous.
- Open the Line Item Table module and go to the Totals tab.
- Confirm Show Totals Section is on for the table that carries the quote’s totals.
- Turn off rows you don’t need. A quote with no fees reads better without an empty fee line.
- Relabel the rows you keep, then check the preview against a deal that has discounts, taxes, and multiple billing frequencies.
- Publish the template. The totals block now matches your quoting vocabulary.
- Running several Line Item Tables? Leave the totals section on for one of them only, so the quote has a single grand total.
- Total contract value is worth showing on multi-year and ramped deals, where the first payment understates the commitment — see How ramp pricing works.
- Tax rows only have something to show once taxes are calculated — see Setting up automatic sales tax.
