Configuring ramp pricing on a quote
Open a line item in Quote Builder and define sequential billing periods, each with its own discount and term.
This feature requires an Enterprise plan.
This walkthrough is for Quote Builder. Ramp pricing is Enterprise (and Trial). Admins can hide the control next to Discount by unchecking Enable Ramp Pricing under Settings → General Quote Settings — it defaults to on. If that setting is off, turn it on before following these steps. On Pro the control is hidden with no upgrade message.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”- An Enterprise or Trial plan (the ramp icon is hidden on Pro)
- Enable Ramp Pricing checked in Settings → General Quote Settings
- A quote in Quote Builder with a saved, non-bundle line item
- A billing frequency on that line item — the ramp icon only appears on recurring line items, never on one-time products
- The Discount column enabled and editable for reps — see Configuring line item columns
- Add the product. In Quote Builder, add the recurring product you want to ramp. Wait until the line item has saved — newly added rows don’t show the ramp icon until they have an id. The product needs a billing frequency: if the row is one-time, set Billing Frequency on it first (or ramp a recurring product instead) and the ramp icon appears.
- Open Configure Ramp Pricing. In the line item’s Discount column, click the ramp icon. The tooltip reads Configure ramp pricing (or Edit ramp pricing if a ramp already exists).
- Set billing. Choose Billing Frequency (monthly, quarterly, annually, and the other HubSpot frequencies). For Billing Start Date, leave At payment or pick a delayed start — a specific date, days after payment, or months after payment. Later periods inherit a delayed start automatically so they follow the first.
- Define the first period. Under Ramp periods, set Period end to how long this step lasts. A period can span up to 10 billing frequencies (for example, 10 years on an annual product). Set the period’s Discount as a percent or a currency amount.
- Add more periods. Click Add period for each step in the contract. Only the last period can end with Until canceled. To drop the last step, click Remove period.
- Apply. Click Apply. The line items regroup under Ramped pricing with a period count and badges such as Year 1 and Year 2. Cancel discards the panel without changing the quote.
Editing and removing a ramp
Section titled “Editing and removing a ramp”- Reopen the panel from any period’s ramp icon to change frequency, start, lengths, or discounts.
- Changing name, SKU, description, quantity, unit price, cost, billing frequency, or variant on one period updates every period in the group.
- Dragging one period moves the whole ramp so the periods stay together.
- Deleting a period row removes it from the group. If fewer than two periods remain, the ramp dissolves and the leftover item is a normal line item.
- Cloning a quote copies its ramps onto the new quote.
Examples
Section titled “Examples”- A three-year annual ramp: Year 1 at 40% off, Year 2 at 20% off, Year 3 until canceled at list price.
- A quarterly onboarding ramp: Quarter 1–2 at a currency discount, then Quarters 3–4 at a smaller percent off.
- If the ramp icon is missing, check the plan, confirm Enable Ramp Pricing is on in Settings → General Quote Settings, confirm the line item has a billing frequency, wait for the line item to save, confirm it isn’t part of a bundle, and make sure Discount is visible and editable.
- Clearing the billing frequency on a line item hides its ramp icon. Rows that are already ramped keep the icon so you can still edit or dissolve the ramp.
- Pair ramps with prorated line items when the first period shouldn’t bill a full cycle.
- Watch Starting ARR and Ending ARR in Summary so the stepped contract matches what you expect on the deal.
